K2 KEVLAR(R) Knitted Rope Wick

Burning Passion K2 knitted ropes are a blend of KEVLAR(R) and fiberglass. Fiberglass gives the rope its high-temperature resistant properties, and KEVLAR(R) adding its tensile-strength characteristics. This rope is very sponge-like and it will absorb a lot of fuel and burn longer than other kevlar ropes. However, it is very loose, light weight and stretchy and it does not hold it's form as well as fiberglass/aramid filled kevlar rope. This rope is not ideal for making props like snakes or monkey fists because of these properties, but it makes it very useful for static props or experimentation.

Split Rings 220 Lbs.

Strong split rings can take the place of quicklinks, and their smaller profile can sometimes contribute to a sleaker design, or to join components that do not fit quicklinks easily.

Our stainless steel split rings hold 220 lbs, have an outer diameter of .680 in., and an inner diameter of .507 in. We use them in some of our poi chains and Fire Poi heads to attach swivels to link chain, and to integrate swivels into poi heads. Almost all of our poi head designs utilize these split rings by integrating them directly into the hardware of the poi head so it can connect to the poi chain.

Since these split rings are very difficult to open without the right tools, we do not recommend to open it by hand or trying with any tool except split ring pliers. This is good for the safety of your Fire Poi set, but might make it more challenging for you to build your own poi set without split ring pliers.

Quicklink 3.0 mm Zinc Plated

3.0 mm Oval Quicklinks are a reliable way to attach sections of your poi together. The zinc-plated steel quicklinks are standard issue for all of our poi sets since they serve as an easy way to attach/detach to poi chains. Other hardware can be more permanent with a handle or poi head fixed to the chain. We prefer using quicklinks so the poi spinner will have an easier time switching out their poi hardware.

We highly recommend carrying a pair of needle nose pliers with your fire gear. This will give you the ability to loosen and tighten your quicklinks on the go. For your safety, please make sure you tighten your quicklinks with a tool, do not do it by hand.

We offer 3.0 mm (1/8 in.) oval quicklinks in zinc-plated steel. 3.0 mm thick oval quicklinks have a 200 lb. weight load limit. Quicklinks 3.5 mm and smaller will fit through the eye of a Type A #15 (ball chain) connector.

Ball Chain Connector #15

Ball Chain Connectors are used to create a rigging point on the end of ball chain, thanks to the eye opening on one end. Quick links up to 3.5 mm thick fit perfectly in the circular opening. The ball chain connector has a bowl shape with a cut on the other end, which is where the ball on the ball chain rests. Place your ball chain in the bowl shaped end and use a needle nose pliers to close the opening.

Intended for use with size 15 ball chain. It may be used with size 13 ball chain, but not recommended. #15 Type A connectors are used with #15 ball chain. Most common ball chain and connector size used for poi leashes. Anything larger than #15 ball chain will not fit inside this connector. It is made from nickel plated steel.
A poi chain typically needs two (2) ball chain connectors, one for each end. A full set of poi typically needs four (4) total.

Burning Passion K1 KEVLAR (R) Fiberglass Core Braided ropes have a blended KEVLAR(R) and fiberglass braid with a twisted fiberglass core sheathed within. This style of kevlar rope is the most popular rope used by fire-dancers today since it is ideal for high-heat low-tension applications. This rope is perfect for making monkey fists, snakes or any sort of prop that requires a braid/weave. It holds its shape well, has a nice hefty weight to it, and it has a nice burn time.

Burning Passion KEVLAR(R) tape wick is widely used in the construction of fire gear. Our wick is a blend of aramid material (e.g., KEVLAR(R)) and fiberglass. We aim to have the lowest price of wick per foot over our competitors. This blend tends to outlast other blends of wick when it comes to exposure to hot metal hardware components like screws, washers, pins, bolts, etc. One interesting thing to note about the construction of this blend of wick is that after you make a cut, there is a strand that will unravel the wick if you pull on it. It is a good idea to tape up the ends of the wick after you cut it to ensure that it does not unravel.

The 4 in. wide wick is made of two 4 in. (10.2 cm) wide, 1/16 in. (1.6 mm) thick wick pieces sewn together with Teflon-coated fiberglass on the sides. The 4 in. (10.2 cm) wide wick opens up like a tube in the middle because of this construction. You can see how it appears different in our image of the different sizes. All other sizes are solid and do not separate if you open it up in the middle like the 4 in. (10.2 cm) wide wick.

Duracell AAA Batteries

The 1.5V AAA battery size is required for many electronic toys, players, pagers, remote controls, etc. In the flow arts community there are some LED spin toys that require AAA batteries, like Flow Toys. Using alkaline batteries like these will provide more product life than rechargeable batteries, although they are usable only once. These batteries are sold separately.

#15 Ball Chain Stainless Steel

Ball Chain is one of the most common used chains in the fire dancing community for poi and other chain based props. It is a very light chain that has the ability to swivel at every ball, making it unnecessary to use additional swivels so the chain will not tangle. However, ball chain should not be not be used for more strenuous moves like orbitals, chain wraps, kicks or for rope dart. It can potentially break under the stress of jarring force. We recommend welded chain for more vigorous spinning.

Our Ball chain comes as #15 size which is 5/16" (8 mm) diameter in stainless steel. Stainless steel is the strongest and most durable ball chain available, so it is the only kind Burning Passion carries.

Delta Quicklink 3.5 mm Nickel Plated

Delta Quicklinks are less commonly used as poi hardware, but they do have some advantages to certain poi building applications that normal oval quicklinks do not. They are triangular in size, which is useful for making handles. The flat bottom can hold the handle and since it comes to a point at the top, it makes a good resting point for hardware connected to poi chain.

The Delta Quicklink is made from 3.5 mm thick nickel plated steel. It features a threaded opening that has a piece that opens and clothes the opening when turned. To ensure your quick links are secure, please use needle nose pliers to tighten them.

Ball Bearing Swivel

Our Ball Bearing Swivel is smaller than the normal swivel sold by other fire gear companies, but still just as strong with a load bearing weight of 300 lbs. We prefer the smaller size ball bearing swivel because it eliminates the length of extra hardware needed, making more room for chains to maximize moves like orbitals and chain wraps. Each swivel is a black tint and measures at 6 mm.

Swivels are used as hardware on the length of poi chain allowing the whole chain to swivel, which avoids any tangles for chain that does not swivel on it's own. Welded chain, chain maille or any other chain that kinks up when you twist it will need swivels, while ball chain will not since it swivels on every ball. Only two (2) swivels are really needed for a set of poi, attached to the handle end, to prevent kinking. Some people do prefer four (4) swivels, one on the handle end and one on the poi end for extra swivel action, but it is not generally needed. Four swivels will open up some extra maneuverability which allows making some moves a bit easier like rolling your poi on the ground to spin off the fuel.

Twist Link Chain 2.0 mm Nickel Plated

2.0 mm Twist Link Chain is a great poi chain for people that prefer lighter, yet sturdy, welded chain. This size chain is generally preferred by poi spinners that do a lot of chain wraps and orbitals. They do not catch as much during these tricks as larger diameter chain.

Due to it's small size, it can not fit quicklinks through the end of the chain. The alternative is to use Burning Passion industrial-strength split rings to connect to other hardware. Since this chain can not swivel on it's own like ball chain, it is worth noting that this chain will kink up while being spun if swivels are not attached to the handle side of the poi chain.

Our LED Pacifiers are perfect for those people who love to rave way to hard. The LED Pacifiers are ready to use with new batteries. Each pacifier has a black lanyard. Each LED Pacifier features 5 blinking LEDs that are yellow, green, blue and 2 red. To turn on the pacifier, simply push in the base so it pushes the circuit board’s button on the inside of the casing.

The batteries on the pacifiers can be replaced and the pacifier can be reused. Just open the pacifier by removing the base and exposing the LED circuit inside. Take out the circuit board and by popping out 3 of the A389 button cell batteries and slide in new ones. It is worth buying a few spare of these batteries online, they can be bought very cheap in bulk.

KEVLAR(R) Sewing Thread

KEVLAR(R) sewing thread comes in very useful for repairs of frayed wick and fire prop construction. This pre-waxed thread is approximately size 2/0 or size A thread, and comes on a sewing machine spool The spool contains 50 yards (46 meters) of material. When sewing by hand, use multiple passes to reinforce your work, and do not attempt to break by hand.

Hot Kevlar Sewing Thread tip

There is a misconception that KEVLAR(R) thread is resilient to fire. However, if you put an open flame up to a naked strand of the thread, it will burn through. KEVLAR(R) thread is fire resistant, but only in the right application.

When sewing with the thread, always sew back into the point where you just came out, so there is no exposed thread. The thread works best if the stitching is internal to the wick being stitched and not external where it can be burned.

Crystal Case

The Crystal Case is a soft light-weight cover that encases the flowlight, the crystal case was designed for glowstickers, "stringers" and spinners who enjoy fast and light-weight poi. It provides padding for body wraps and protects the flowlight from hard impacts, while diffusing the light and making it appear brighter.

While flowlights are very durable, a hard poi spinning impact can break the shell. We highly recommend that all flowlights spun as poi be protected in at least a crystal case or our other poi casings. These cases also enable you to add various weights (flowmass) to your poi heads.

Facets in the crystal line up with the button to enable you to feel the button in the dark. Plus you can activate and change the modes of your flowlights without having to take them out of the crystals.

These are the new 2nd version of the crystal cases which do not turn yellow from uv light like the old design.

Flowmass

Flowlights give flowtoys a good heft, but if you like a heavy feel to your tools, you can add flowmass to the ends of your flowtoys -where they count- to give them more momentum.

The mass can be installed onto crystal cases, all flowpoi, staffs and other tubing based flowtoys. If installing onto tubes, apply a tiny bit of vaseline/ petroleum jelly/ chapstick to the insides of the mass BEFORE installing on tube. If installing onto crystal case, do NOT apply any lubricant otherwise the mass may fly off while spinning.

Flowmass is sold as a pair. Double mass is 2 pairs of regular flowmass. Everyone has different preferences for how much their poi weighs. If you like heavier poi, we do recommend going with double mass. Please note that flowmass does not fit on flowtoys alone.
